A new health care company focused on getting patients test results faster has officially opened in Louisville.
HealthTrackRx, a medical laboratory that tests patient samples for diseases, has opened its new $45.5 million operational headquarters inside the new UPS Labport facility at 2425 Universal Way.
“This is a project several years in the making, but the ability to combine this tremendous facility, the resources of UPS Healthcare, and the support we’ve received from the state of Kentucky and the city of Louisville, really made this an easy decision,” Martin Price, the CEO of HealthTrackRx, said at the company’s grand opening Sept. 10.
UPS Labport, a $100 million health care venture out of the globally known shipping company UPS, opened in Louisville in early 2025. And with that, came opportunity for companies like HealthTrackRx, a leading molecular testing laboratory that tests for infectious diseases and will perform testing on-site at UPS Labport — cutting down shipping times and company costs.
Price said the partnership with UPS Healthcare, which started two and a half years ago, was the reason his company decided to relocate and make Louisville its new home.
With that relocation, HealthTrackRx has brought 115 jobs to the metro so far, company officials said. Most of the workers in the lab area doing diagnostic testing are local hires, while corporate leadership has relocated to Louisville from various other states including Texas and Georgia. And HealthTrackRx is anticipating future growth and already hiring additional employees.
“It’s not just about the people waiting on the results. … Getting results a little bit faster, having an answer a little bit quicker, being able to plan the next steps a little bit faster is so incredibly important,” Lt. Gov Jacqueline Coleman said on Sept. 10, noting the significance of the health care industry to Kentucky’s economy.
What does HealthTrackRx do?
HealthTrackRX workers clock in at the UPS Labport facility around midnight, working through the wee morning hours to process samples in the state-of-the-art lab decked out with more than a hundred various machines and computers to ensure test results are uploaded digitally for medical providers to get to their patients.
Price said the company will be able to serve about 10,000 providers across the U.S. on a daily basis out of the Louisville facility. This means tens of thousands of patients will now be able to have next morning results on medical tests ranging from respiratory tests, urinary tract tests, stool samples, and much more.
The facility, which Price said, “is as big as a football field,” stands to be a pillar for the future of the health care industry.
The industry wide health care innovation at HealthTrackRx in Louisville stands to close the gap in service time for rural communities while also helping to stem the ongoing issue of antibiotic resistance in the U.S. as physicians often overprescribe antibiotics based on symptoms before a lab test diagnosis is returned.
“This type of solution, HealthTrackRx, combined with the amazing logistics capabilities of UPS Healthcare, really can democratize access to these tools,” said Alex Azar, the former secretary of the U.S. Health and Human Services from 2018 to 2021. “As a public health care leader, I really do think that what [HealthTrackRx] is doing is very important to our health care system. I think it really demonstrates the future of where we need to be going.”
In 2024, HealthTrackRx delivered two million lab test results to patients. Now, the company’s capacity has grown with the opening on its facility in UPS Labport.
“We’re here to celebrate both a milestone for our company as well as for public health, a celebration of access and answers,” Price said. “What we’ll be able to do here at HealthTrackRx is deliver critical next morning results to every corner of the country.”
What is UPS Labport?
UPS Labport is a first-of-its-kind facity that combines diagnostics testing by laboratory companies, such as HealthTrackRx, with its world-renowned logistics and transportation network to help accelerate patient care, The Courier Journal previously reported.
The facility, which provides services to the entire nation, is classified as a Biosafety Level 2 lab, meaning it can handle infectious diseases such as influenza, salmonella and other samples that may be derived from blood or other cultures, The Courier Journal previously reported.
After a patient has a sample collected, it makes its way to UPS Worldport, the company’s largest global air hub, also based in Louisville. From there, the sample is taken to the Labport facility three miles down the road. Lab techs for companies like HealthTrackRx then conduct diagnostic testing and provide results to doctors as fast as 8 a.m. the morning after a sample was collected, meaning patients get results quicker.
The facility expands on UPS CEO Carol Tomé’s vision for the shipping and logistics company to become a leader in the health care space.
“What we’re doing here matters,” Price said. “Delivering better, faster diagnostics matter. That access to delivery of better diagnostics should be the standard of care in America.”
